![]() ![]() ![]() As if EA losing the exclusive license to make Star Wars, FIFA or NFL games would result in there being no games on the market or that these games would cease to be profitable without meager budgets, iterative design or increasingly manipulative monetization practices. What’s worse is that this company has actually succeeded in convincing parts of the audiences for these brands that this is the only way these games could be made. With the popular non gaming brands there is a chance they forfeit the license once said audience is exhausted (see Lord of The Rings, Warhammer) bit there is always the danger that of it becomes popular in gaming agin that they might swoop in and buy up exclusivity again. Then, when it comes to existing gaming IP or studio, when they have finally abused the fan base of said IP or studio enough that the audience for their software has been utterly exhausted they just shut down the studios and lock the IPs up only to be brought out again when the nostalgia might be enough to drudge up an audience for them to start all over again (see dungeon keeper). EA knows that if they can force said existing audience to only have one choice to engage with said brand in their chosen medium then EA then can force them to endure whatever product they release no matter the quality or monetization practices in comparison to expectation or norms.ĮAs entire existence is due to them leeching off the good will created by other brands for all they as much profit as possible without regard to quality or morality.ĮA is hated because fans are forced to engage with their games and, as a result, are forced to endure whatever product they put out no matter how subpar, manipulative or psychologically abusive those products might be. Without any competition to worry about EA knows this audience will be forced to purchase their product no matter how subpar it is or no matter how aggressively monetized they create it to be. EA’s entire business model revolves around buying exclusivity agreements for existing brands that people love or want to engage with and then holding that audience hostage.īe it in the form of non gaming brands (Star Wars, NFL, FIFA etc) or gaming studios (BioWare/Mass Effect, Pandemic, Criterion, Westwood Studios, Bullfrog, MAXIS etc etc), EAs entire strategy is to buy into something that already exists and for which there is a dedicated and engaged audience so that they can then exploit said audience for as much profit as possible. So, here is my attempt to explain to everyone once and for all why it is that EA seems to be reviled above all others.ĮA, as it currently exists, exists to buy themselves out of competition. I have noticed whenever distaste for EA is expressed or brought up there are inevitably people confused as to why EA is specifically the subject of so much hatred as opposed to other publishers/companies in gaming. ![]()
